Historic Bridge Remains

Linwood, NC (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: This is one of the pillars from the old Beard Bridge built in 1818, the first bridge ever constructed across the Yadkin River. Its condition deteriorated after the Civil War and years later around 1899 a new bridge was built using the same pillars. This bridge was nearly destroyed by a flood in 1916, and was eventually dismantled when the WilCox Bridge opened just downstream in the 1920s. Apparently all this nearly 200 year old pillar is good for these days is for sustaining a lone cedar tree.

About synthman19872003

synthman19872003

An avid photographer of weather/nature ever since 2003 and have been a member of WU for over 5 years now.. it's been a journey I can tell ya that, learning something new every day! I firmly believe a photographer (and his/her work) is just like a fine wine, it mellows with age; so if that's the case I still have some mellowing to do :)Anyway, hope you enjoy my pics!- Matt
