I believe this is a young Great Blue Heron.

I don't know what this is, but it's not a green heron, which is much smaller than this bird, and I've never heard of a Blue-crown Night Heron, although there is a Black-crowned Night Heron.

Looks like the tall bird is eying the mallard, wondering if he's up to the challenge of duck for dinner.
