It is not uncommon for deer to "hide" their newly born fawns in relatively plain sight. The little rascals will lie there motionless for hours on end even if some kind of activiity takes place around them. Even though naturalists say a newborn fawn is odorless, there is always the danger of it being discovered by coyotes or foxes that prowl in the woods. One of the reasons I presume that the doe hides the fawn out in the open in "plain sight", thats a place where you will rarely see a coyote or fox during daylight hours.
