This is a shot of the setup for making candles. The wicks were tied on to those wooden spindles, then dipped into the melted wax repeatedly until the candles were as thick as desired. I imagine that beeswax was probably used. If I get back up to Sumter this fall, during their Backcountry Days weekend, I will find out for sure.
