Thanks Cowgazer. Yes it is evergreen. I dont know what the Southern live oaks are like but these have leaves that are as bad as any rose thorns.

California live oaks do indeed have long acorns like this. The live oak of the Southeast is a different species and has much smaller, less pointy acorns.

Interesting, acorn as in oak or as in one I am unfamiliar with. It is pretty and definitely unique...nicely composed photo with brilliant colors in details.
