Driving snow

Uploaded by: minnesotamom

Meadowlands, MN (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: It was about 15 degrees above zero with the winds gusting over 30mph, driving the snow sideways---what looks like clouds in the upper left is snow being swirled high in the air. Later in the day big drifts came out from these 15 to 20 foot high snow banks on the sides of the highway, and in many places it was whiteout conditions you couldn't see to drive through.

Thanks for the good wishes, Dave, but it's not to be. It's been nearly -30 below zero F. every night for several weeks snow, with little in the forecast to look forward to it being any better anytime soon. Winter here is like it is where you've been in Scandinavia---loooooong and cold.

Wilma, thanks ever so much for your great note! Yes, the highway dept does a great job all winter here, even way out in the rurals like we are (it's 37 miles to the nearest city with gas and groceries).

Eileen, thanks ever so much for taking time to look and leave a nice note! :-) I bet you're seeing nearly the same thing down there, aren't you? What a winter it's been!!

Ann~~lol, why don't you want to be here instead of nice, warm, dry Tennessee?? :D

Yikes! What a great weather series, Kathy. Amazing amounts of snow, and yet, a job well done by the DOT on the highways. Kudos to you, and congratulations on the AC/VIP recognition.

Boy, isn't that for sure, Jen?!! People can be such idiots---how do they know what might be ahead on the road as they just keep flying along, unable to see?!! Thanks for taking time to look and leave a note! Take care and stay warm!! We had -33 below here this morning....is winter ever going to let up on us a little??

Great series Kathy! This is what my drive home was like, exactly, times of not being able to see much of anything and some cars slowing down and others not...Congratulations on your AC and VIP!

Art~~it's SO hard to capture a decent image of the snow when it's blowing like that! It has to be against a dark background or it doesn't show at all. Thanks for the note! :-)

Robyn~~you were practically in my back yard when you were up here!! Wow---I can't believe you got to see a moose--I've only ever seen a few in my whole life, even though I do a LOT of driving around all over up here! You were really blessed to get to watch one!! :-)

Gil~~thanks SO much! It was quite a drive yesterday, an 80 mile round trip, some in blinding whiteout conditions! Sure got to take LOTS of great photos though---way more than I could post on here. :D

Hi Kathy, I was at the Sax-Zim Bog a couple weeks ago, enjoying all the Boreal birds and watching a moose! That last storm must have been a doozy - the snow banks were tall but nothing like this! Thanks for sharing! Robyn

Thanks for your note, Heidrun! Yes, I drove an 80 mile round trip in this! By last night there was a couple places I nearly was bogged down in deep drifts. :-)

About minnesotamom

minnesotamom

Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in northern Minnesota, USA, where the winter temps have dipped down to -60º below zero F. The summers used to be mild but in recent years have been up in the 90ºs---too hot for me. I love being able to travel the world from my office chair, through all your great photos! I've learned tons about photography and editing photos thanks to all the great people on here and their willingness to share tips. Thank you to all you Wunderfriends who take time to look and leave notes---I deeply appreciate it. :-)free hit countersCreate your own visitor map!
