Caption: My goofy Shiba Inu spent the whole day guarding a bunch of bread I threw out for the birds! She didn't want them herself but was bound and determined nothing else was going to eat them either. She even went after a couple of the cats who were innocently out playing and ventured to near her "patch"! She was out there about 5 or 6 hours before I went out and MADE her come inside. :D

Thanks for writing, Delana! You reminded me--I had a Dalmation who LOVED black oil sunflower seeds. When I'd put them out in the bird feeders I'd have to give her a handful and she just about smiled while she ate 'em!!

Love it Kathy, Brooke don't like me feeding the birds the birdseed and she will eat any I drop to keep the birds from getting it.

Good for you!! I used to feed the birds all winter here but I don't anymore because I don't want them drawn in to be cat food. I only threw these bread crusts out because some crows had been hanging around and because the cats seldom go out in that back yard--the snow's too deep.

Yeah, t'other day one of the idiot cats here killed a nuthatch just for "fun". Saw the lifeless little critter just lying in my neighbor's yard.

Larry was hiding in the little Hooverville under the tree, and *another* nuthatch was doing his thing climbing up'n'down the branches, and came down low and even landed on the ground, and I could see Larry plotting her attack. Threw a few nuggets of dry-food at her which made some noise and shook her from her plan.

Saved the nuthatch for at least one more day...

Please give her an extra dog biscuit for chasing away the cats. He more than likely save the lives of several birds by chasing away the cats.

About minnesotamom

Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in northern Minnesota, USA, where the winter temps have dipped down to -60º below zero F. The summers used to be mild but in recent years have been up in the 90ºs. I love being able to travel the world from my office chair, through all your great photos! I've learned tons about photography and editing photos thanks to all the great people on here and their willingness to share tips. Thank you to all you Wunderfriends who take time to look and leave notes---I deeply appreciate it. :-)/>free hit countersCreate your own visitor map!
