Unbelievable. At first I thought this had been photoshopped because of the fall blooming iris. After reading the comments/replies, and a quick google, I learned there are quite a few hybrids that will bloom late in the year. Thanks for posting this picture!

Thank you for the great comments, I really appreciate them! When I first saw these flowers there were people and a parking area right behind the flowers so I got down on one knee and this is what you see in the photo. What a difference a change in position will do for a photo, sure hope my knees hold out!!!!

Sure is pretty Mary, and yeah, I had a rose bloom long after we'd had hard frost too, some are really tough!

Someone doesn't understand that it is not her duty to police what is posted on WU and softly or not so softly accuse the truthfulness of all that is said or posted. It is a wonderful capture and a well deserved AC! The rest stops in NC are well maintained and known for their beauty. They take great lengths to get the most beauty year round from each bulb or root they plant.

Not doubting your truthfulness, Mary, just amazed to see these lovelies blooming so recently when so many people, including me, have posted pictures of frost at lower elevations and even snow in the mountains. Weather must have changed fast, is all I can say!

BTW, congrats on a well-deserved AC!

thank you all, it was a nice surprise to see this garden at the rest stop! Kathy, with all the travel we have been doing in the past 2 weeks I understand your questioning this location. I double checked and it was off Highway 40 in Clyde, NC.

The Blue Ridges are in the highest part of the state. They've been getting snow in some areas of the mountains the last couple of days. It truly is a gorgeous picture!
