Supernumerary Primary and Secondary Rainbows

Tok, AK (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Again! I could hardly believe my eyes when we got up yesterday (6 am) to come in the house. The sun was just rising in the northeast, and this beautiful vision was silently glowing across the sky. The primary bow does have supernumerary colors along the inside. If I had slept another 5 minutes, I'd have missed it.

Just great Katy ... gotta have that camera within reach every minute of the day don't you.

I was out on the deck a little while ago when a little hummingbird flew up to me chattering away and then proceeded to feed on some flowers ... my Canon with the 400mm lens was perfect for the shot ... But there was no shot ... the camera was in the house.. Paul

That is so cool. And the rising sun gives such a different color to the rainbow. I have noticed this on sunsets before, but do not believe I have ever seen one on a sunrise. Very cool capture, and worth the 5 minutes of extra sleep.

Had to come back and comment on the golden glow along the tree line. Completely overlooked it the first time - must have been focused on the rainbow.

Thank you Gil, Kat and Scott!

We sure have been getting a bunch of rainbows in my area, with the rapidly changing skies and weather. What fun!

Scott that night rainbow did have a secondary bow, but it was quite faint. Perhaps a polarizing filter would have made it more visible. It was very dim.

Your Night Rainbow shot was the one I was referring to...went back & took another look at that one, and it actually wasn't a double bow...got confused with your other recent double bow...WOW! keep 'em coming!

Sure pays to be up & on the lookout - for the sunrise double bow here and at sunset for the double bow the other week. Thanks for not sleeping in here, & for staying up late for the other fantastic bow. Well done Katy!
