Thanks Dave and Kim!

Some do Kim, some do! :) Keep in mind this is not something unusual for us. -20 can feel like t-shirt weather after a week or so of -70 also!

Thanks Art and Michal!

Michal I couldn't get thermometers made with both Celsius and Fahrenheit, it was just too 'crowded' for all those numbers... :) Glad to have one that goes this far down though, and hope I never need it!

From my navy days, that is cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. Not that I served on sailing war ships with cannons. However, I am sitting in Florida with the AC on looking at an inviting swimming pool.

I've never seen it this cold....I had to look at the thermometer twice...couldn't figure it out until I saw your location! Glad I'm here in sunny (well, partly sunny anyway) Southern CA!

Almost cool enough for some of your outstanding window frost pix on thermal grass.

Nice temp for a double barrel stove.

Katy - You're a gem! Thank you for posting this for me. I've waited since February of 1999 to get a photo of -50. Brings back memories of that day in Palmer. Quite a unique feeling when you breathe in temps that low. Thanks so much - the AK scrapbook is now complete!

Thanks Sharon and Shirley.

:) Yup Shirley, that's the name of my weather station, Turks on the Tundra. But those consoles that display temp are no fun to take photos of! :P

Thanks Gil, Peter, John, Shirley, Betty and Larry!

Peter yes it does 'mold' our lives, I suppose we live quite differently from those who don't often (or never) experience cold. Planning, preparation and good warm clothing are essential, and part of the regular routine.

Shirley we keep chucking wood into the stove! :)

Oh, no! That is REALLY COLD! How do
you stay warm? My furnace has to work
really hard when it is in teens and
single digits. I don't think it would
heat at that extreme temp.
Congratulations on VIP shot!

Heck ! I am glad we don't get such cold the consequences would be devastating here. Guess it makes you think hard about everything you do, getting a short journey wrong would be disastrous, keep warm and stay safe. Congrats on VIP

Thanks for looking Gil, FstAsAshrk, Summer and Julie. Yeah, I guess I am bragging, we set a new record low temp for this day. :)

Julie, even though it's a record, it can happen any day from now until... March. Could get 20 degrees colder than this too.

About katy99780

katy99780

I've lived in Alaska since 1969. I love this wild land. The extremes of the far north shape and affect every living thing. Extremes of weather, elevation, daylight hours, isolation, flora and fauna, nothing in Nature is insignificant.I have a Davis Vantage Pro weather station, uploading to Wunderground, (Turks on the Tundra) the National Weather Service, the Citizen Weather Observation Program and MADIS (Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System).
