Tok, AK (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Glacial upwelling has filled the Robertson River channel bank-to-bank with solid, glacial blue ice, and brownish spring meltwater is flowing over the top of the ice, soon to carve a channel into it.

The Robertson River's source is a glacier some 30 miles upstream, and it flows into the Tanana about a mile downstream. Ice will often remain in this channel until July.

Thanks Heidrun!

This ice goes all the way to the ground, to the riverbed Heidrun. The meltwater is coming from melting snow in the hills, bringing silt etc with it, making it brown. It'll cut down through the ice soon, and disappear when the snow in the hills is gone.

I did muse for awhile what it might be like out there on that ice Gary, but I can't fly, so I stayed on the bridge...
