Transition from bare summer roads to snow pack winter roads is often tricky, and this year is no exception. About a week of very slick roads until the surface settles into cold snow pack. A bunch of accidents this day on the Parks Hwy, but no one was hurt. Traffic is now sparse, mostly down to the seasoned (pun intended) 18-wheelers.

Katy, I know you and your husband are working, but I feel like I'm on vacation with you everyday since I'm in SE Texas. You are a great tour guide! :)

Most of the time at lower levels in South West UK if it snows it's that heavy wet stuff, if it lasts through the day then often there is a night frost on top of it!

The other thing is almost no one uses snow tyres, partly because there is no guarantee that we will get any snow during the winter!

We run the same tires year around too Dave, but our passenger vehicles are 4 wheel drive. The semis carry tire chains, and sometimes need to chain up to get over the hills... then I know it's time to PARK!

About katy99780
katy99780 I've lived in Alaska since 1969. I really love this wild land. The extremes of the far north shape and affect every living thing. Extremes of weather, elevation, daylight hours, isolation, flora and fauna, nothing in Nature is insignificant.I have a Davis Vantage Pro weather station, uploading to Wunderground, (Turks on the Tundra) the National Weather Service, the Citizen Weather Observation Program and MADIS (Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System).
