we were typing at the same time........thanks for sharing your story Julia. My brother in law raised sheep for many years and I loved 'being a visitor' and bottle feeding the occasional 'bummer lamb'??? can never remember if its bummer or bumper lamb? very special and I so glad your Ebram has had you to look after him!!

Oh, I love watching something like this,
I'm just too lazy to have to tend more than
two dozen or so at a time.

Have to tell you, though, that I am bottle feeding one of this Spring's lambs
that was injured at about 2 weeks of age. Apparently a canine of some ilk
(domestic or coyote unsure) managed to get into our pasture (completely fenced)
and over to the sheep pen where the little one had its head through a square
of the cattle panel. The dog/coyote took a bite out of Ebram's upper and lower
jaw. He has survived and is doing well. Now I have to figure out how to wean him.
He's now six months old.

Could imagine bottle feeding a year old wether? I can't.

Thanks, Susan!

It was an amazing thing to watch Julia, you would have loved it. We came up around the curve and here was this huge flock of sheep being herded by this rugged Basque shepherd and his dog (and I assume the donkeys - maybe 3-4 with bells stay with the sheep so every sheep doesn't have to wear a bell??). They were right up next to the highway, I was so afraid of distracting them, but the shepherd and the sheep seemed totally comfortable in that situation. There was a small creek to get some water, the dog made sure no one got up to the road. I just stood there is awe! Such beauty! When we drove off, we got a big smile and wave from the Basque shepherd! Made my day!

That's a whole lot more sheep than I
want to be tending.

Certainly is a great capture, Susan!
