Taos, NM (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: I think it has it's seasons mixed. This past summer had a few very small blooms during our bad drought. Now after our Monsoon of 5 inches of rain in Sept, it decides to start budding out again. Was not like that just a few days ago. I think they will soon freeze.

Thank you much Kathy. Was there this mid morning and looks just about exactly the same as this photo. So guess the cold temps 23 last night, don't bother it much. I'll keep checking whenever I get that way.

This is going to be interesting to see how they turn out---please keep us posted, Gil!
Unfortunately, all the cholla limbs I had from down there, as soon as I switched them from growing in water (to sprout roots) into cactus soil died almost immediately. I'll know better next time! :D

Thank you much Katy for your viewing & commenting. This was taken Saturday.
Yes I did go back Sunday after a heavy frost Sat night. Those big buds were rather shriveled, but there were a lot more buds, but not as nice looking as this ones.

Today (Monday) I was there in afternoon. They looked a little different, but were bigger than Sunday, and healthier looking. Bigger than Sunday, but not quite as big or nice as the first ones from Saturday.
Thanks for your interest.

Nice capture of the cactus in your area Gil. Sure glad we don't have those things here to bump into!

I think it is Mother Nature who has the seasons mixed up with all the screwy weather everywhere this year. We froze in July baked in humidity in August and now frost, and it is like that everywhere also.

Woah! Remarkable! Keeping my fingers crossed that they burst into bloom before frost gets 'em!
