I heard the same program, Shirley. The Monarchs are at their lowest level ever. Mexico is doing a better job at preserving their limited mountain winter habitat. But the extreme weather in the US, and the use of herbicide chemicals has drastically reduced the milkweed they Monarchs along depend on to lay their eggs. The milkweed also serves to make them distasteful to predators, thus helping them to survive.

Nice! I heard on the news today that they were
migrating and are fewer in numbers than usual.

About gardner48197

8/2015: Greetings from Michigan, where we get quite a wide variety of weather changes throughout the four seasons! Originally I found this site, for the weather, and the photos kept drawing my interest! Decided to get my first digital camera in 2010, and have since upgraded to a Nikon P530. Truly an amazing, eye-opening hobby! This is a great community, so many excellent photographers and friends, so little time! I do read and appreciate every comment and email that I receive! I would like to thank everyone who contributes, for all of the great inspiration and feedback! Sometime down the road I would still like to get a DSLR camera, but for now I just hope to send a small view of life from the Great Lakes State. Home of the University of Michigan Wolverines! Go Blue! -James
