Smoke from the Australian bush fires has been very obvious in NZ today. The sun has been casting very indistinct shadows and the light on the ground has been decidedly orange, although the sky hasn't. There was a bit more colour in the sky about 7:30 p.m. when these shots were taken. The fires are up to 2,000 km away from Auckland.

Great VIP series John! I haven't been watching
the news and wasn't aware of the brush fires.
So sad for everyone and all the wildlife, hope
they get relief soon.

Hi,
Thank you for sharing your Aussie Smoke series. We have traveled extensively in both Aussie & Kiwi and feel awful when we see Aussie ablaze and having that huge dust storm. It boggles the mind how anyone on our planet cannot believe in dramatic climate change.

Meanwhile your photos are beautiful and colorful. Hope Christchurch has been stable this year.

Take care.

Thank you Wanderoo. Christchurch has been wobbling a bit this weekend, as have various parts of the country. We have had about 8 (not serious ones) today.

Recent NZ Earthquakes

Thanks Gil. I think they have a way to go yet. And, of course, it's not just one fire. They are very widespread.

Thanks Jim. I hate the fires too. Unfortunately, Australia is a hot place and Nature takes over. Just a shame that many folk build their homes surrounded by gum trees.
