Caption: Ka939 on the northbound Rotorua Express at Frankton Junction. 23/12/1955. Taken on my Eastman Kodak 122. It had incredible depth of field, but the viewfinder did not quite line up correctly.

Thanks Peter. Actually, I doubt that they pulled the Taneatua Express - I think they were too heavy and too big for the line from Morrinsville through the Karangahake Gorge to the Bay. I'm pretty sure the Js were the biggest through there.

Great shot, they also pulled the Taneatua Express that ran past the back of our dairy farm at Tatuanui. A great spectacle and sound in the mid 50s

Not as big as many of yours. We have 3' 6" gauge rather than your 4' 8.5". This one - loco and tender - weighed about 145 tons.
