Nice shot! I have had many horned lizards on my kitchen table from having two sons who loved to catch them. But they had to take them back where they found them the next day.

I live in Fort Worth, TX and when I was a kid some sixty years ago these little guys were everywhere. Then the fire ants came and they have disappeared along with the red ants ese guys used to eat.

Thanks Julie , cal , Linda , Randall , Katy , James , Kristina , Duane and Whiteflights ! And yes , Linda and Katy , I plopped down on my stomach and got him with the macro setting on my camera . I know that as a defense mechanism these lil' guys can squirt a small atream of blood from their eye socket . I'm glad I didn't get a free sample of that :)

Oh my, I haven't seen one of these in a long time. Like in a previous comment above, I played with these when I was younger, but now they have nearly all disappeared thanks to fire ants.....I will take the horny toad any day over fire ants! Great shot!

I miss these little guys. I saw them constantly in Oklahoma as a child. I live in Texas now and have never seen one :-( in 30 years.

I just read the previous comments and I guess we all agree about not seeing them anymore.

About docshovel39
docshovel39 Hello , my name is Tim . I live in the small farming community of Ropesville , Texas with my wife and photo partner Sherry . I got involved with photography because of my older brother Steve - a fantastic photographer who lives outside of Seattle , WA . My favorite work , apart from his , is a terrific book entitled " Ghosts in the Wilderness " by Tony and Eva Worobiec . It captures the remains of small , abandoned rural communities across the Midwest , much of it shot in black and white . I also have become a fan of photographer Jim McGuire . His black and white shots ( nashvilleportraits.com) are amazing . Thank you for your comments and have a GREAT day !
