A Winter Sport in Maine

Uploaded by: deepwoods

Wednesday December 18, 2013

Penobscot, ME (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Clearing off the cars, the yard, the driveway, etc., is done by a variety of methods. Some use shovels, snowblowers, snowplows, car window scrapers, and the really desperate resort to flame throwers (just kidding). Whatever is used, one thing is certain, in Maine snow removal is recognized as a winter sport. This is Dave this morning clearing our yard and driveway for the second time in two days. We now have over a foot of snow on the ground, and winds blowing strong gusts in from the sea.

Thanks, Gringo. Dave certainly has today off. In Maine we are in the grip of a terrible ice storm! Only power company employees, medics, and firemen are out today, as well as law enforcement of course! What a terrible mess it is!

Oh, it's very rewarding, WeatherWise. If he had not cleared the driveway (it's 300' long) we could not have driven out to get groceries and supplies. :)

Looks like a bit of unrewarding work -
with that much snow hard to make a dent
in it. Congratulations on VIP weather shot!

The graininess and pale colours give it a kind of vintage look (without the overdone Instagram cheapness). I like it!

About deepwoods

deepwoods

Enjoy taking photos in the area of Downeast Maine where I live near the shore with my husband and our dog, Drzl, who is one half greyhound and one half rhodesian ridgeback. I am not a professional, I just shoot what looks cool or interesting to me. Thanks for looking!
