My camera is a 8 mega pixil Nikon. I first noticed the hole clouds after church. At that time there were 3 of these formations. I live approx. 1/4 of a mile from the church, by the time I got home, got my camera and took some shots of the clouds the formations had changed.
I started looking at the pics and noticed a slight bit of red color the the banjo formation. Using microsoft picture and fax viewer I started enlarging the pictures. In the banjo formation the red speck looked like a round red ball with the sun reflecting off it. As I got the pic bigger a small black speck came into view, appeared to be square.
On the neck of the banjo as I increased the zoom on the cloud I saw a round ball red in color with a white square on it. The second and third picture also had one of the red balls with white square on the side. For some reason these objects won't show up on the pic I uploaded. If anyone would like to have a copy of the pics, I would be more than happy to email the pictures. After you look at the objects the formations will truly look strange.

I'm sure Amanda is right. A punch hole from an aircraft. Unless you let your imagination run wild, LOL!

Probably where an aircraft hit the cloud layer. Pretty cool.

Yep, a celestial chainsaw, LOL. My exact thought.

Someone posted a link about "hole clouds" a couple of weeks ago, about how these things form and why. But the long extension is truly weird!

It looks like a giant chainsaw cutting through the clouds.
