Anna, no this beach is not safe, not so much sharks but crocodiles & Jellyfish. You can go a bit further up the coast to Trinity Beach or Yorkie's Knob, or a bit further to Port Douglas.

Am told this wonderful beach is Not Safe for swimming as there are lots of sharks in that area. Is that true ?

Beautiful Reflection! Australia... Cairns is located about (1,056 mi) from Brisbane, and about (1,678 mi) from Sydney by road. It is a popular travel destination for foreign tourists because of its "tropical" climate. It serves as a starting point for people wanting to visit the Great Barrier Reef and Far North Queensland.
