Bridgwater, Somerset, United Kingdom

Caption: Today in parliament it was announced that the rivers Parrett & Tone WILL be dredged once the rivers have gone down & safe to do so! The flooding on the levels in Somerset occupy an area larger than the city of Bristol (UK)! More rain is on the way! The above pic is of the river Parrett this evening.

Just saw a blurb on the local(!!) news about flooding, the wettest season around, etc., and I was like, "Hey, that looks like the nabe that Dave posts pix of!", even the pumps shooting water into the air, etc., then at the very end, the announcer finished with "I'm So-And-So, reporting from Somerset county...", then I was all like, "Hey, it *is* Dave's nabe!".

Crappy reason for an area to become "famous", but...

It will cost millions, it hasn't been done for around 20 years. The rivers are pretty constricted due to lack of deredging. This weekend could well see it get worse as there is a storm on the way plus spring tides, E.G: at Clevedon on the coast the high tide on Sunday is due to be 14.1 meters (46ft 3 inch) without any surge!

Beautiful nighttime capture!
That dredging will cost millions, though!

About WurzelDave

I'm a 'wurzel' who lives in South West England (UK) in the county of Somerset (next to Devon), famous for scrumpy cider, Cheddar cheese, The Wurzels (well worth going to see) & birth county of 2009 F1 world champion Jenson Button.Like the rest of the West Country, Somerset has many areas, places & landscapes worth a visit such as Glastonbury Tor & Abbey ruins, Quantock hills, West Somerset Railway, Cheddar Gorge, & Exmoor, to name but a very few.Favourite holiday destiations are Iceland (see alot of photos) & the Icehotel in Jukkasjarvi Sweden (also see photos). Still a lover of the flim camera, my first camera was an Halina 110 camera which you could buy flip flashes for! I have a Canon 3000V SLR film camera, also have some TLR cameras from the 1950's plus Canon powershot A3300, SX150 & SX40 digital cameras which are useful for close up macro shots & also makes film 'last' longer! I also have a variety of film cameras (35mm, stereo, 110, 120 format) dating from 1940 upwards. Photos from these cameras will appear here from time to time
