Thanks for all the comments. In the end I went left, it was only 1 mile to my car that way and 3 miles if I went right. I had spent so long watching the show that it was only minutes away from going dark so I really needed to move. Fortunately the only beasties I met on the way back were very disinterested sheep.

A nice picture, but all I have to do is hear or see the word "moor" and the hound of the baskervilles flits through my mind. If that is a sunrise, I might venture on, but if it is a sunset, I would turn around and head for the nearest pub.
