Danville, VA (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Sweet gum tree with seed balls and star shaped leaves. Pretty tree though gumballs are no fun to step on. I read that after they turn brown two winged seeds come from each hole in gumball dropping about 50 seeds which are often eaten by many birds, chipmunks, and squirrels. The leaves are quite pretty as well.

Great capture Shirley, and they are a pain when
they fall on the ground and ya step on them.
I sometimes make mini wreaths out of them when
they turn brown to put on my Christmas tree and
to give to friends.

Very pretty and unusual image Shirley! I have never seen any of these before; I don't think they grow in our province.
