pilot11: Sorry, Mt. Mitchell is the highest peak in the Eastern United States and the highest peak in the Appalachian Mountains. I guess that would make it the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. Mt. Craig, which is one mile from Mt. Mitchell, is the second highest peak in the eastern US. Mt. Washington, in NH, is the highest peak in the Northeastern US.

the Black Hills of South Dakota is the high-
est point between the Rocky Mt. and the
Swiss Alps
