During the interwar years Krynica was a fashinable and chic Heath resort. It flourished and received more and more guests from Poland and abroad. During that time the most famous Polish tenor Jan Kiepura achieved triumphs on the European and world opera stages. He was famous and wealthy. He wanted to invest his earned money in a proper way, that is why he planned to built an exclusive hotel in one of the Polish holiday resorts. A young engineer, Zygmunt Protasiewicz, whom the tenor accidentally met in Mediolan, encouraged Kiepura to build a hotel in Krynica. Kiepura trusted him and entrusted an accomplishment of the project to him.

On Christmas Eve 1933 there was a solemn opening ceremony of the "Palace Hotel Patria". The hotel has been fashionable in Poland and abroad since the beginning. The elite of the contemporary Poland enjoyed their time in "Patria". Among them there were senators, landlords, artists and writers. In 1937, the Dutch Crown Princess, Juliana, together with her husband, a German prince Bernard Biesterfeld, was the guest of honour in the hotel.

During the period of occupation, the Germans took the hotel over assigning it for a sanatorium for their officers. Unfortunately, they robbed it and took a part of the equipment away. After the war it was the state that took the building over. At present, "Patria" is the property of the Joint Stock Company "The Health Resort Krynica-Zegiestów".
