Looking @ the Satellite view, I would say it is because the the east half, from this perspective, is actually the foot of the glacier, which has been fairly stationary since the 1980's when we lived here, & the rock is revealed as the ice melts. The foot of the glacier may be stationary, but the ice keeps moving. The rock also tends to insulate the ice. The western toe may be moving more rapidly. It can be quite complex.
