Wow! Your hard work pays off. Words can't describe this shot! Incredibly amazing will have to do.

It's pretty awesome. Unfortunately I'm missing a few clear nights due to the cold/snow. The observatory is frozen shut!

Am in total awe of what is involved to capture such a truly awesome image. The time involved ... well, I nearly fell off my chair! I grumble at trying to focus in on our dear Moon and there you are waiting over a period of 2 days to capture this! I salute your dedication and congratulations on the AC :)

It's a fun, challenging hobby! I'll response to your detailed question in a bit.

Wow! Hubble palette is wonderful.

Thank you Bob, it is pretty cool. I messed around with a few other options before I settled on this one. Narrowband is a lot of fun compared to RGB.

Wow!!!! What kind of telescope do you use to get a photo like this? Just amazing!!!!

PWBart, the telescope actually isn't that impressive. It's an 80mm refractor from Orion. The trick with astrophotography is your ability to track the sky; I use what is called an 'off axis guider' to guide the main camera and keep things on track. Basically, it's a small prism that juts down into the light and 'picks' off a portion of that light. It has a camera of it's own that is VERY sensitive and software uses the stars in it's images to keep my telescope on target. I can image for upwards of 30 minutes a frame if needs be.

I do have a large SCT that I use primarily for planetary and visual work.

Well worth the nine hours of collecting data. Congrats.

I agree, that image in particular was shot over 2 days. That is one issue with narrowband imaging is just the sheer amount of time involved. Each from consists of a 10 minute exposure.. 3 hours per filter.. you can see how it adds up.
