Such a gorgeous friend. I'd expect to see him in the Rain Forest, not the snow! :) 10!

Crested Caracara of Caracarinae subfamily. Large, long-legged bird of prey. 20 to 26 inches. Maybe 10 species in the world. This one probably ranges from U.S. to Tierra del Fuego and/or Falklands.

I understand how hard the snow is. When my daughter and I were driving through Yellowstone in late June perhaps in 2000, we passed some snow along the roadside at a high elevation. She told me to get out and make a snowball and she would take my photo. I can still feel the pain of my nails from trying to scrape some snow for a snowball. That snow was hard as a brick-bat. I still am interested in what kind of bird you have here.

At that point the snow is more than 160 centimeters but as this frozen you can walk on it. (in fact one person can walk on the snow without problem)

A "jote" !!! Beautiful bird... It is some kind of hawk that lives in the Andes!  A very very great photo. The series is marvelous.

Like the others--great capture of an unknown bird (at least to me). Is it a raptor or a kind of hawk? I'm surprised that he's standing in that much snow.

Nice winter photo from Argentina mountains!
Great capture of the bird. I am not familiar
with this bird. It's body is shaped a bit like
our hawk. Thanks for sharing with us!
