The "Huge yellow thing" The Dolwin Alpha is an offshore-platform, built in Zwijndrecht and transported over water to Schiedam. They were lucky to have a head wind and not sideways, that would have made it impossible to pass through the second much narrower bridge. It needed four tugs and a push tug. After finnishing in Schiedam it will be placed in the North Sea before the German coast.

Hi, You may have heard about the bridge over the Skagit River in WA, in USA. From what I understand the load on the truck was high, but the trucker had clearance. However, unlike this situation, the clearance wasn't rectangular. There was an arc, so to speak on the edges.

Enjoyed the fact that your huge transport made it through.

Feel sad that the trucker did not make it through the bridge on I-5. We are heading out there, and we plan to take a ferry to avoid dealing with the construction on I-5.

I am going to steal (and modify) an old British saying: God made America, but the Dutch made Holland.

About Mooween

Mooween

My name is Johanna (Hannie for short) And I live in Spijkenisse, near Rotterdam in the Netherlands. It is only since May 2004 that I have a digital camera and that makes it a lot easyer to send images per e-mail or otherwise. Before, my favorite camera was an Asahi Pentax K1000. I still use it, but I have to scan the photographs first. This is a lot better. Do read my blog too!
