Thursday May 2, 2013

Ventura, CA (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: 10,000 acres 10% contained, numerous out buildings burned. No Homes are a total so far. Firefighters did an incredible job protecting homes on many different fronts. Started May 2nd and with Santa Ana winds blowing hot and dry, this fire blew up quickly. Now burning in a protected wilderness, so no fire retardent can be used. Now the winds have shifted, and it's burning in a totally different direction. Whole neighborhoods are under immediate evacuations. And the smoke covers much of Ventura .

Thanks everyone ! If you can believe it this fire on day 3 is now 28,000 acres, burned to the pacific ocean for many miles, and 15 homes damaged, no loss of life !

I went to take a photo on day 2.. but the winds changed, and spread the smoke all over, so nothing was very clear.

Looks like they may be able to fully contain by Monday, we are expecting rain ...YES rain on Mon and Tues ! Thanks again all.

Great capture! It is Saturday a.m. and I have not heard how the battle is going... was 20% contained last night. We are in Los Angeles. The SFV had lots of smoke last night and the kids hike in Malibu today was cancelled due to smoke & fire.
God bless you and your neighbors!

I am so sorry. My mom used to live in Westlake. Hoping for quick containment, especially since it takes foliage so long to re-grow there.
