Appears to be a Blue-Crowned Pigeon. There are some pictures and a good description at the Barcelona Zoo site. I know you can't post links in comments here, but you can search for the zoo site and then search on the site for the Blue-crowned pigeon. I must say your pictures are much better with richer colors. Gorgeous bird and great photo! Congrats!

MAYBE???? The Victoria Crowned Pigeon is a large, bluish-grey pigeon with elegant blue lace-like crests, maroon breast and red iris. It is part of a genus of three unique very large, ground-dwelling pigeons native to the New Guinea region. Wikipedia

I have no idea what kind of bird this is. I found it in the Henry Doorly Zoo Rainforest. It was not part of an exhibit. This was one of those birds that are allowed free raign.

I will upload another photo of it to assist anyone who thinks they might be able to identify it.

I didn't even apply any noise reduction. I did very little to this photo. A little exp adjustment, and a slight vignette. That was about it.

A beauty. All we have down here is a bug. How do you get such clear shot at that high ISO and not show grain? Congrats and 10 from SW Iowa

An incredible shot (even if it's only half a bird)f! I assume that this is a cooling mechanism -- but the sharp detail of your photo is impressive.

I too want to know what kind of bird? And where is it's native land?

About LarryD

LarryD

I really enjoy this site. The wonderful photos I see here never cease to amaze, and inspire me. I look forward to reading the comments on my photos. I am inordinately pleased when I am awarded an Approvers Choice. I use Nikon equipment and am especially fond of macro photography. I continue to be astounded by the beauty in the miniature world visible though my lens. Additionally, I rarely have to venture very far to find interesting subjects. The Henry Doorly zoo is my favorite location. If you get to Omaha Nebraska. I highly recommend you spend some time at the zoo with your camera. Larry
