Sunset on Platte River

Uploaded by: LarryD

Tuesday December 11, 2012

Springfield, NE (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: We had some nice puffy clouds around 3 PM so I made plans to shoot the sunset. Of course when I got there, no clouds. So I shot what I got. A nice bonus was the ice. First time I have seen any this year.

The great thing about the Platte is that, at least here in Sarpy County, it meanders around quite a bit and so I can setup for a decent sunset shot from just about any angle. I use a mobile device program called The Photographers Ephemeris. It give me the time and direction the sun will set at any given location.

What a great scenic! You are lucky to have access to that big old Platte river for your creative shots, and lucky you are able to hike around to find that "just right" place. My hiking amounts to walking from the road across a mowed area to the edge of a pond. LOL Congratts on a beautiful and creative AC and 10 from an hour SE of you.

It actually might look pretty good filling a whole wall. If you look REAL close there are some tiny specks in the upper left corner area, those are groups of birds. Might be kind of cool printed big enough that you could actually see them. I have never printed anything that big, but it sure is an interesting idea.

Thanks Kim. I was really hoping for more clouds, but what can you do? I got kind of muddy getting this shot. I washed my pant as soon as I got home. I was in such a hurry I forgot to take my phone out of my pocket! So in a sense you could say this shot cost me a new phone.

About LarryD

I really enjoy this site. The wonderful photos I see here never cease to amaze, and inspire me. I look forward to reading the comments on my photos. I am inordinately pleased when I am awarded an Approvers Choice. I use Nikon equipment and am especially fond of macro photography. I continue to be astounded by the beauty in the miniature world visible though my lens. Additionally, I rarely have to venture very far to find interesting subjects. The Henry Doorly zoo is my favorite location. If you get to Omaha Nebraska. I highly recommend you spend some time at the zoo with your camera. Larry
