Sunset on Platte River

Bellevue, NE (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: So I went to this location I wanted to try and set up. I found a nice piece of driftwood for my foreground and started experimenting. I was actually just about to leave as it was already 20 minutes past sundown when the sunset exploded under the low clouds. WHHHAAAA, Yes! According to the time stamp on my images, the color lasted less than 2 minutes TOTAL. Pays to be prepared. And when, when, am I going to learn that sunset isn’t over until I need to use a flashlight to see well enough to walk out?

I didn't get 100 shots to pick from. I was using an off camera flash with a 1/4 CTO gell on it to light the foreground log. This nessesitated some acrobatics on my part so I only got a few to pick from.

Its funny to see the same sunset from different areas! I thought for sure there wasn't going to be anything special and then to have it spread half way across two states...pretty cool.

Most sunsets seem much deeper and prettier after the sun goes down for sure. Great shot.

Oh yes, the afterglow is what it's all about! So glad you were prepared - two minutes of color, but probably 100 frames to choose this sublime moment. Kudos, Larry, and congratulations on the Blue Border!

About LarryD

LarryD

I really enjoy this site. The wonderful photos I see here never cease to amaze, and inspire me. I look forward to reading the comments on my photos. I am inordinately pleased when I am awarded an Approvers Choice. I use Nikon equipment and am especially fond of macro photography. I continue to be astounded by the beauty in the miniature world visible though my lens. Additionally, I rarely have to venture very far to find interesting subjects. The Henry Doorly zoo is my favorite location. If you get to Omaha Nebraska. I highly recommend you spend some time at the zoo with your camera. Larry
