Snowflake

Uploaded by: LarryD

Tuesday January 25, 2011

Caption: This is my second attempt at photographing a snowflake. I used my cell phone screen saver as a background and light source for the picture. The snowflake is on a microscope slide and the light is coming through the glass/snowflake.

What a beautiful picture! So fine!

I too have bookmarked that snowflake website, and have a couple of his books. I gave out the pocket guide as a Christmas gift to lots of family members last year. :)

Kenneth G. Libbrecht was in Fairbanks a few years back, and photographed snowflakes, one was used in his collection of US Post Office's snowflake stamps. I have learned so much from his website, and now I pay more attention to frost and flakes, (which I am surrounded by so much of the time!) I too have been 'bitten' by the snowflake 'bug!'

You are destined for many more ACs and World Views!

Yes! That's where I got my information. I ordered one of his books today. I am going to keep trying to get photos as good as his. Also look up Wilson Bentley. Now that was a real photographer.

I love snowflake photos and this one is especially beautiful. Great idea of using the cell phone for background while the snowflake stays cool on the slide.

I used a Nikon D300, Nikkor 200 mm f/4 macro lens, with a 12, 20, and 36 mm extension tubes attached. I used the Live View feature zoomed all the way in to focus.

About LarryD

LarryD

I really enjoy this site. The wonderful photos I see here never cease to amaze, and inspire me. I look forward to reading the comments on my photos. I am inordinately pleased when I am awarded an Approvers Choice. I use Nikon equipment and am especially fond of macro photography. I continue to be astounded by the beauty in the miniature world visible though my lens. Additionally, I rarely have to venture very far to find interesting subjects. The Henry Doorly zoo is my favorite location. If you get to Omaha Nebraska. I highly recommend you spend some time at the zoo with your camera. Larry
