Caption: Satellite image of Hurricane Luis at peak intensity at 1705 UTC 3 September, 1995. At the time, Luis was a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 140 mph, and was located several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles. Luis would go on to severely impact the northern Leeward Islands as a major hurricane, and would then proceed to make landfall along the coast of Newfoundland as a category 1 hurricane (on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale).
