Skating Pond

Uploaded by: Kennebunker

Kennebunk, ME (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: This recreational pond is part of the town's outdoor facilities. A portion of the Mousam River is diverted into this manmade catch basin to provide a pond for children's fishing derbies, waterlillies, foliage reflections, and ice skating in the winter. A great use of our tax money, IMHO!

This is the best place to walk your dog, even in bad weather. The Parks and Rec guys take good care of the road that circles the pond. Great birdwatching also available. Many people with disabilities go there to walk because it's a safe place during the day. Well, it used to be. The photo is a gem.

Wow, thanks for the kind words. This little park is just off Main Street, and while I was there late this afternoon, a group of preschool children from a local daycare were there "frogging"; some older folk were walking their laps around the 1/4 mile track; one older guy was riding his bike; a couple of men were fishing in the rapids of the river off to the left; and several folks were lounging on the benches in the sunshine. Just behind where I was standing, the tidal portion of the river meets the fresh water. The best of all worlds, here!

Oh man, do I love this! Great use of what is already there, and a wonderful year around recreational area too! That's an awfully pretty pond.
