Caption: The architecture of this magnificent plantation fulfilled my dream of what I had expected to see in Louisiana. The double staircase, and the symmetry of the buildings is so beautiful that it has been "borrowed" by a local winery for its label!

That's a courting staircase, isn't it? The idea was for the 'lady' to go up one side and the gentleman to ascend the other - to avoid the possibility of him seeing her ankle or petticoat hem as she went up the steps. Of course her neckline left little to the imagination but for some reason that was okay. Ah, the vagaries of culture.
