Fallstreak Holes!

Uploaded by: Kajzar

Saturday October 19, 2013

Ksawerów, Poland

Caption: For the first time in my life I saw fallstreak holes today! Other names for them are punch hole or canal cloud (when they're not circular). It's very rare phenomenon and it could appear when clouds are made of supercooled water (water temperature is below freezing but it has not frozen yet).

Thank you all very very much for your comments!! I appreciate them!

Kathy, you're right, those holes were made by two F-16s.

They are commonly called punch holes because they are occasioned by an airplane flying through the cloud layer. Interesting phenomenon!
