Mullet Lake ice melting

Uploaded by: JeffMasters

Saturday March 17, 2012

Topinabee, MI (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: I pulled a piece of ice out of Mullet Lake in Northern Michigan during my bike ride along the shore. It was so strange riding shirtless in 82°F heat along the shore of a frozen lake. The ground still had some snow patches from the 16" snow storm from last week. The lake ice is breaking up weeks ahead of usual due to our warm winter and incredible March heat.

Cool ice! Looks like 2 prehistoric birds grappling over a piece of food. And no - I don't do ink blots!

What I'd like to know is, how did you get this shot left-handed while holding the ice in your right hand? I don't think I could do that.

So much warmer and snowless, in many normally wintery wonderlands, this season. Great and unique weather shot with beautiful clarity! 10!

Mmm, we had similar conditions here - but no clear ice like this. Having all been snow covered on the lakes, it's much more slushy looking. Hope you had a great ride!
