kingston, NY (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: This ice disk formed on the Rondout Creek in Lake Katrine, NY during the week leading up to January 25, 2014. I estimated it to be 160feet. . . +/- 20ft in diameter (note the line of wild ducks all the way to the right, and at about the same level as the disk. . . along the ice/water line. Temperatures ranged from zero to 20F in the days leading up to this photo. The photo was taken by a close friend.

Found this link on the web about an ice disk that formed on a river in North Dakota in November of 2013. A bit of an explanation you might enjoy reading. Hope you send this photo in the weather channel and to your local newspaper. Great find!

Neat! Would love to hear a scientist's play
on how that perfect circle of ice formed -
perhaps has to do with the way the currents
flow - not sure! Very interesting VIP weather
shot! Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

Neat ice disk, would like to see one sometime. The ducks must be freezing their tail feathers off in that cold water.
