Obituary for a Hunter

Uploaded by: Granddad

Kalamata, Greece

Caption: This little hound turned up on the road by our house a week ago. She had almost certainly been abandoned by her owner because she was ill and needed veterinary attention and medicine, both of which would cost money. We sheltered her and fed her while our vet obtained the necessary tests to confirm that she was suffering from Leishmaniasis. We took her to him today and found that this was indeed the case and that the only kind option was euthanasia. She was a gentle, affectionate creature who showed immense gratitude for everything we did for her. Dogs repay any kindness a thousand-fold. Let her obituary be: she was a hunter who lived to serve a man who failed to care when she was in need and we never even knew her name. The Greek for 'to have pity ' is 'lipamai', but this is rarely used. Personally I am beginning to really prefer dogs to people.

Thank you and bless you. Your kindness helped her find peace. Thanks for sharing this story...it is a reminder to take a moment out of your busy day to help others..especially the animals..they give unconditional love and you returned that to her. The world is a better place with people like yourself in it.

Thank you for making her last days comfortable.
Perhaps she left this world thinking humans can actually be humane.

The world needs more people like you... she was blessed to have you in her final hours.

Oh the irony- one year ago today I had to have my dog euthanized due to cancer. Thank you very much for sharing your story.

Awww, what a sweet-looking puppy. May she rest in peace.

And yeah, I get worked up the same way, which is why I generally prefer dogs to most people. :\

I don't deserve any credit for helping this dog, because I did only what any other animal lover would have done. Unfortunately situations like this 'wind me up' so much that I only feel better if I can tell people about it and it is you kind people who end up having to listen. Sorry.

Thank you for making "Hunter's" last days better than probably the rest of her whole life. It is such a shame that the people who abandoned her couldn't appreciate all that dogs are willing to give for us. Your karma rating has definitely increased 10-fold.

Thank you for your kindness. Beagles love to hunt and can go missing and leave their humans wondering. At least this one ended up in a loving place.

You did a nice thing. Thanks for sharing. I agree with you about preferring dogs to people with the exception of my husband who is also what we refer to as a "crazy dog person."

About Granddad

Granddad

We are English, (except our dogs, who are definitely very Greek, having been abandoned strays who took us in out of the kindness of their hearts). We retired to Greece in 2003 to escape the phoney political correctness endemic throughout the Anglo-Saxon world and to mix with some real people again. We live in the Exo-Mani in the extreme South of the Peloponnesus, where the sea and countryside are beautiful and the weather is also less political (i.e. they don't tax sunshine yet). The site provides an opportunity for us to bore the whole world with our snapshots and for which we are duly grateful.
