It is actually a degree above a normal high for mid February here Heidrun; I unconsciously exaggerated the situation(under the influence of warm sun and light winds). Today is milder with minus 3 (but overcast), and there's to be a cool-off starting tomorrow, with below normal temperatures.

Warm sun and -8°C is kind of incongruous to us spoild Austrians . -8°C is considered rather cold in my area. So are the different perceptions of temperatures.
But yes- where the sun hits the snow directly it will melt.
