The mascot for Hutto High School in Hutto, Texas, is the hippo. Many if not most businesses in town have a hippo statue out front, as do many homes. Many people paint, clothe, or otherwise decorate their hippos. Appropriately, the hippo in front of Hutto Fire/Rescue Headquarters is painted in dalmation livery.

Gary, great picture! I don't travel through Hutto much so thanks for the preview. Cute. So, is this a dalapotamus? Or a Hippomation? :)

Thanks! Hutto is kind of an odd little town... no planning, even by Texas standards. A Home Depot and a Lowes across the street from each other, but no grocery store. The commercial district is a real hodge-podge, but still great home price values with a fair amount of new construction going on, and a good location near the 130 toll road and Highway 79. If you ever pass through hungry, I highly recommend the Texan Cafe in the small old town district. Great food & pies!

About GaryVA
GaryVA My interest in weather really spun up during my career in wildland fire management in Southern California, as weather has a tremendous affect on wildfire starts and behavior. This is an, ahem, older photo of me in those days. I'm now living in central Texas, and weather is a very serious hobby of mine. My weather web site, providing current, historical, and forecast weather conditions for Central Texas is Round Rock Weather. var sc_project=2591691; var sc_invisible=0; var sc_partition=25; var sc_security="b5a0cb54";
