I really have to see if I can find some
information on these little critters.
Birds-nest fungus, not uncommon in wood-chip mulch and other organic matter. What look like eggs are little sacs of spores which splash out in the rain and will make new plants.
I knew if you saw this you could tell us
what they are. I had guess as much about
the "little eggs" in the "baskets". Maybe
that should have been my title..."Little
Eggs In Baskets".
Thank you so very much, Kathy, for adding
your information here.
have found similar odd things, as you know.
We have plenty of wood around for all sorts
of fungi to feed on. I was hoping for some
good ones in or near the log deck, but there
were none there. Then I found these, as I
said, on an old fence piece.
Thanks again for your input.
Knew you could count on Kathy to provide an answer to the mystery!
BTW - I hope that this comment posts in the right place!!!
We all owe Kathy a huge THANK YOU, for all
the wonderful information she has looked up
and shared in many cases.
