Congratulations on AC Photo! Great capture - looks just like the beargrass in my picture book!
There is a story about beargrass - Spotted Bear A Rocky Mountain Folktale Hanneke Ippisch(Author) and Hedvig Rappe-Flowers(Illustrator) that wrote it were from Holland but had lived in Montana for 27 and 25 years when they wrote and illustrated it. Anyway the tale goes that this is how the spotted bear got its spots from the beargrass. A friend brought me the book back from a train trip she took following the Lewis and Clark trail and they stopped in Missoula Montana and perhaps visited the renovated schoolhouse where this author lived.

Looks totally different to the beargrass here in Arizona...of which the leaves are used in basketry, woven mats, etc. This plant that you have is really lovely...Congratulations, Dawn!

Thanks to the Approvers and I'm so glad you saw something you haven't seen before. The first time I saw Bear Grass was in Alaska and I took a photo of my mother and father sitting in a field of Bear Grass. I didn't know this blooms only once in so many years....some articles say five years and some say seven years so it is something to look forward to. Apparently the blooms don't last very long so enjoy when it happens...and the bears don't eat it! Since they bloom so infrequently I was thrilled to find some that were not on the downhill slide!
