Beautiful scene, Peter! What are the buildings down there? I see chimneys but no cars or a road....

This is Nant Gwytheryn, the village was built in the 1880s to serve the Granite quarries, one is visible in the top right corner of the photograph. The last of the quarries closed in 1949 and the village fell into disrepair, eventually it was restored and is now the "Welsh Language centre " it is a school teaching Welsh and also a venue for weddings, conferences etc. The road winds down the side of the mountain and is quite steep in parts, in the days of the quarry it was too steep for horses to pull carts so sledges were used instead. The stone went out by sea and there was a loading jetty, this was destroyed as it became unsafe.

About Cowgazer
Cowgazer I am Peter, brought up in the center of Manchester, UK. But was a square peg in a round hole there, worked 33 years as stockman in dairy farming then made redundant. Luckily got a job managing a garden nursery for a couple of years, but had to leave as tenancy came to an end. Couldn't find work so relocated to Wales and am now a self-employed gardener, great move, good things come out of hard times. Digital tech has made photography affordable to me and I love it, compliments my walking and Birdwatching. At present on a steep learning curve, new things are always good, stretch your mind and keep you sane-ish.
