Liquid Silver

Hotchkiss, CO (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Looks like liquid silver but it is as precious as gold... irrigation water. Without it, Colorado would look a lot different, especially in farm and orchard country! It comes into the property in a wide ditch like this and then gets turned into smaller ditches that run through the rows of trees or across the field of hay. It would be great to have one of those big sprinklers for hay, but you'd have to sell a lot of hay to pay for one for a small farm like ours, so we stick with ditches.

So true, Gil! I wish you would get a nice soaker
one of these days. I'm enjoying it while it's
here. I know it will soon be gone and pretty much
stay gone for the Summer. You know how that goes!

No fish in sprinklers-like to occasional one you see in the irrigation ditches.
