On Berthoud Pass

Winter Park, CO (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: This is one of the switchbacks on Berthoud Pass, and the reason I won't do this one if it has snowed or is going to snow. There are several of these switchback. The grade is not all that steep on any f them, but they are sharp curves..what I call hairpins. On slick roads, these are not amusing. Luckily for me, the roads were dry, the good weather held, and my drive was great. They also had improved the road since I was last one it. Much better!

Thanks, Heidrun! I do love Colorado! The road
was really excellent, much better than the last
time I was on it. It's been years. They have
made some really nice improvement and it was a
very pleasant ride. You still have to pay close
attention on the switchbacks, though.

Many of the mountain passes have those hairpin curves and it does make like interesting. I have been through some in WA where we had to put on chains which makes it even more interesting. Pretty shot.

Link

I can't get any maps to copy, but this link will take you to an intersting site about this pass,
including a map. You can check out the curves!
