Caption: NCDOT planting of golden cosmos in the shadow of Pilot Mountain. I think I could have gotten better pictures if the sun had been shining, but it kept looking like rain.

Thanks, Shirley! I'm going to be going by there again next week, will be sure to allow time to stop, but don't know if the flowers will still be at peak bloom or what the weather will be like that day.

Thank you for dropping in to comment on your way to Gold Beach, Gary! Yes, we had these last year further up Highway 52 toward Mount Airy, and I photographed them then too.

Thank you, Meg and Brenda! The first time we drove through this part of the state, just before we moved here in 1989, we first spotted that mountain, which has an unmistakable shape and can be seen from any high point for miles around. Since we moved out from the Winston-Salem area to Westfield, it is even closer, and I have photographed it often. I have some spectacular pictures of it from last fall when it caught fire; attached is one.

I used to live in Virginia and I would drive by Pilot Mountain when I went to visit friends in North Carolina. Such a distinctive and beautiful site. Thanks for the great pic.

Thank you, Dianne; glad you like this! This is about a half hour's drive from my house. I had thought to re-shoot it today (Wednesday) but it's pretty much solidly cloudy again. :(

LOL Wilma! I do have a number of other photos of this mountain at different seasons, including one from last fall where it was on fire. Have never photographed it in the snow simply because it hasn't snowed a measurable amount in the last 3 years since I got a digital camera. Thanks for commenting! I'll be sure to take autumn leaf pictures of it in another month or so!
